Egyptian Museum |
1898 - 1901
There is no other museum compares to the Egyptian museum in Egyptian artifacts in number and value.
The foundation was attributed to the French archeologist Augustus Mariett, who wished to be buried in its garden.
The total number of pieces in display exceeds 300,000 pieces. it was calculated ,if you spent 1minute in front of every piece this would need you 2 years to cover it all.
Average number visitors to this museum is not less than 20,000 daily. even in summer time when Egypt is hot, this museum is never empty.
The museum consists of 2 floors. the tour inside follows chronology. you would not miss pieces of the mean eras ( old ,middle ,new kingdom).
As you are entering the Egyptian museum have a look at the ancient sacred flower lotus. It is one of seldom chances as tourist to see this holy flower.
As opens with the sun rise and closes with the sun set, it was regarded as symbol of resurrection. and sacred for the sun god Raa
as it grow in southern Egypt it was a logo of upper Egypt.

28 scribes were found in the sand on Sakkara. All of them were named except for this one, however the eyes make it one of the master pieces
The eye leads are made of copper, the eye white of quartz, the eye pupil are made of crystal.
The surprise is that the artist didn't use any sticking glue. He must have had an idea about the expansion and contraction rate of these different stones to be inlaid in each other without falling off after 4500 years.
Believe
it or not, this stale is 4000 years old with original colors.
It is a grave stone from the middle kingdom.
The parents are hugging their son and kissing him good bye like a son going in long trip.
His wife is busy preparing him a meal. It proves that the idea of a lunch box must have stared from ancient Egypt. She has to bring 3 meals to his tomb every day as his double would nourish on the double of food and beverage. Other wise his double would be starving begging for food from the surrounding tombs. certainly she wouldn't want this to happen !!!!
The upper Lines describes his name and rank ,vocational skills.....so we can say that the C.V. first started from ancient Egypt !!!!

You can't miss the Hathor shrine in the new kingdom section.
It was dedicated to the goddess Hathor by Bonaparte of the east "Thuthmossis III". This is the quality of colors you are looking at ,in the valley of the kings (1500 B.C.)
Note the 5 pointed stars as they represent human beings. Every dead king would ascend to heaven and become a 5 pointed star. It is the same idea quoted by Walt Disney in "Lion King " movie.

The gold found in the treasure of the New-kingdom king Tuth Ankh Amon made him the most famous king in the world.
His body was found inside a pure golden coffin of 22 kart gold. The estimated value of this coffin only at that time was 22 million US dollars. but for the historical value..priceless.
The estimated gold value in the treasure at that time is 43 million US $., but how can give a price for that?!.

One of the most tourist attraction in the museum is the mummies room.
you could enjoy 11 royal mummies for the greatest kings of Egypt. The most celebrate one is of Ramsses the 2nd.
As a group of archeologists were unwrapping the mummies bundles , the right arm that was over pressed originally moved forward as a reaction. the unexpected move was shocking. For a seconded they thought the king came back to life.
Definitely you wouldn't miss the visit of this rich house of antiquities, and listen to 100's of interesting stories?!
