Sphinx

Sphinx

No other statue from the ancient time is more reputable than the EGYPTIAN SPHINX. This statue puzzled the world and will. The statue that witnessed a lot and never spoke. If the sphinx did speak, I wonder if he would put lots of characters up and others down.

To begin with the name has been inspired by the Greeks. When they arrived to Egypt they found a great likeness between the statue of the Egyptian god Ra3 Hor Akhty Statue and their mythological statue "Sphinx" and called it "The Egyptian Sphinx".

The amazing structure combines the wisdom of man and animal's power in one. The structure date is indecisive, however geologists date the rock to 55,ooo years ago!! The sphinx form has become popular to later kings so that most of kings and queens of Egypt where represented in sphinx form.

Till the time of Bonaparte in 1798 the sphinx was sinking in sand and derby up to the chin. At the time of the Mammiluke 14c, there was a natural sink on the back where camels drank from.

The last restoration took 18 years, finished in 25/5/99. It is considered to be the birthday of the sphinx, but number what???

Don’t be taken by the size of the sphinx. Lots of people say” we thought it would be much bigger” The angel could make it huger than ever. Here is one of them

It is 72 m long. 20 m high. But for sure it is the biggest, the oldest sphinx in Egypt and the world. And the only one built in the old kingdom.

Between the claws of the sphinx lies some where a hidden door that leads to the sphinx treasure. a Russian prince went broke before he found the access. it is that king Farouk was the last one that new where it was and how to it opened.

Who broke the sphinx nose? it seems to be a difficult question to answer. Specially when   Guide books mention at least 4 different stories accusing either French, British , German, Turkish taking it as a target practice, but non of them seems to be true. An older authenticated ,the Arab historian "Al Maqriezy" recorded seems to be the oldest. He referred to 14th century god Fearing prince called "Seem Al Dahr" who disapproved the behavior of some of the ladies. simple ladies that seeking the blessings of the Sphinx as sign of fertility , used to go there at night and burry their body in the sand around the sphinx body to obtain blessings of the god of fertility and find a good husband and have lots of children. "Seem Al Dahr "after taking the Cairo prefect approval attended with an adz and was able to break the Cobra on the forehead , the Nose, and the false beard that every Pharaoh used to wear. 95% of the sphinx beard is in the British Museum and the rest is stored in the Egyptian Museum.
