The Greek-Roman history in Egypt starts with the Greek invasion to Egypt Alexander the great seized Egypt in 332BC. Egyptians welcomed Alexander that saw as a savior of from the oppressive Persian occupation. Alexander worst enemy was Dara the Persian king that he kept chasing till the end of his life. When Dara was betrayed by some of his men that killed him, Alexander tried to save him. the issue that shows what a full of contrasts this man had.10 years later Alexander died and was buried in Egypt. It was rather strange for a Greek king to be buried in Egypt. He was very attached to the city he built and gave her his name " Alexandria". Alexander was supposed to be buried in his home country Macedonia but one of his general persuaded the rest of officers to bury him in Egypt. That general was Ptolemy1st. His share of Alexander's empire was Egypt. His smart act of course gave the credit of Alexander to Egypt and made Alexandria remain the capital of the Greek empire. although Alexander built 9 Alexandria, the number of cities carry the name Alexandria in the present world reaches 70. however non of them compete the fame of this Alexandria that became the culture light house of the ancient world for more than 1000 years. The city was started by Alexander but not yet finished till he died in Babylon in Iraq from a strange fever he got after sporting in the river. His death was mysterious as much as the secret of his lost tomb!! however 10 years in the age of history is like a drop in the ocean, the 10 years of Alexander reign achievements fill books and books of history.
The Nile god in the Pharoanic times used to take the shape of a fatty man as simple of fertility. in the Greek era in Egypt he took the form of a lady holding her breast a sign of giving. this lady is attended by a number of children interpreted to by the depth of the Nile in cubits during the flood time. as the number of children was usably 8, a more reasonable interpretation is to represent the 8 branches of the Nile when reached Delta.
The present fortress was built in the 15th c by sultan Qaitbay. A century after the last part of the light house fell into ruins.
it fought against the French and the British invading Egypt and severely damaged and restored in the 90th.
in the modern times , Alexandria never lost its glair. In 1892 Abbass Helmy II, a descendant of Mohamed Ali built Al Montazah palace which is a miniature of the French Virsai. The palace was built by . the royal garden is covered with 50 archers of flowers and 150 of trees. it was one of 2 summer houses for royal family. The last to have used it was king Farouk.

Bombay's pillar and its surroundings are what were left over from 1000 pillar that the Serapume temple had. To imagine how big it is ;12 people could be sitting in a circle to have lunch on its capital.
