The name "pharaoh" is equivalent to king. The word evolutes from "Pr 3a " which means; "the great  mansion". In indirect way refers to the great person residing in it. Historically the first Pharaoh that attempted to unit South and North of Egypt was Mena (3100-3200 B.C.)..  Historians put him on top of the kings lists to be the first king in the first dynasty. Some of these dynasties were strong enough to form a Kingdome , some were weak, representing dark ages. The humongous size of Giza  pyramids  no doubt testifies for the wealth  of the old kingdom kings. From certain pretexts at the pyramids builder time the king was regarded as a god and had large privileges.
