The first sultan that built a school in Egypt was "Selah Al Din" however, If the pharaohs are proud of their pyramids the Muslims should be proud of this school and mosque of Sultan hassan.14th c. the school took 7 years to be built and coasted what is equivalent to now a days money about 500 million Egyptian pounds

The school is built as four cruciform Huge "Iwans" (niches).

the biggest pointed form "Iwan" can be found in this school.

hundreds of beautiful 14century glass mosque lamps are used in the illumination of the school.

The colors that you car see in the prayer niche are not painted but they are the colors of the interlocked  stones to give it this Varity of colors.

both lime stone, marble and wood are used in this ablution fountain.

The door leading to the cenotaph is made out of copper inlaid with gold and silver.

there were 2 of them. the other one was taken by Napoleon Bonaparte in his campaign on Egypt.
